How to Spot Fake Yaya Agencies

Scammers are getting smarter, and unfortunately, so are fake yaya agencies. They may look legit at first glance, but behind the pretty pages and sweet words could be a costly trap. If you're on the hunt for a yaya, don't let desperation lead you to deception. Here's how to spot red flags before they mess with your wallet, or worse, your peace of mind!

1. No Physical Office or Real Contact Info

A legit agency should have a registered office and working contact details. If the only way to reach them is through a sketchy Facebook page or a prepaid number, that's a red flag.

2. Asking for Money Too Early

Be careful if they ask for upfront fees before even showing you candidate profiles. Real agencies usually charge after interviews or once a contract is in place, not before.

3. Suspiciously Fast Process

Got offered a yaya within minutes of inquiring? Hmm. Good agencies take time to understand your needs and match you properly. Rushing is often a trick to close the deal before you notice the flaws.

4. No Reviews or All "Too Perfect" Reviews

Search their name on Facebook, Google, and forums. If they have no reviews, or only glowing 5-star ones posted on the same day, be cautious. Real clients have real feedback, including the occasional honest critique.

5. Fake IDs or "Lost Documents"

If they say their yayas don't have NBI clearance or "lost" their ID, run. Legit candidates come prepared with basic requirements like government-issued IDs and referrals.

6. Poor Communication or Dodgy Answers

If their replies are vague, scripted, or they dodge your questions, that's a warning sign. Transparency is key when it comes to hiring someone who'll be around your family.

7. No Contracts or Sketchy Paperwork

A professional agency will give you a clear contract with terms you understand. If they don't provide one or send confusing, rushed paperwork, think twice.

8. Too Good to Be True Offers

A yaya who "knows everything," speaks five languages, and is okay with super low pay? Sounds magical, but probably fake. If it feels too perfect, it probably is.

9. Pressure Tactics

Are they rushing you to "reserve" a yaya or saying "ma'am, someone else is interested too!"? That's sales pressure, not professional service.

Protecting your home starts with protecting your hiring process. Do your research, trust your gut, and don't be afraid to ask questions. Your peace of mind (and your wallet) will thank you!
